A Thread of Truth $32.95 Come home to Marie Bostwick’s poignant novel of new beginnings, old friends, and the rich, varied tapestry of lives fully lived. . .At twenty-seven, having fled an abusive marriage with little more than her kids and the clothes on her back, Ivy Peterman figures she has nowhere to go but up. Quaint, historic New Bern, Connecticut, seems as good a place as any to start fresh. With a part-time job at the Cobbled Court Quilt Shop and budding friendships, Ivy feels hopeful for the first time in ages. But when a popular quilting TV show is taped at the quilt shop, Ivy’s unwitting appearance in an on-air promo alerts her ex-husband to her whereabouts. Suddenly, Ivy is facing the fight of her life—one that forces her to face her deepest fears as a woman and a mother. This time, however, she’s got a sisterhood behind her: companions as complex, strong, and lasting as the quilts they stitch. . . Praise for Marie Bostwick’s A Single Thread “Enjoy this big-hearted novel, then pass it along to your best friend.” —Susan Wiggs “By the time you finish this book, the women in A Single Thread will feel like your own girlfriends—emotional, funny, creative and deeply caring. It’s a story filled with wit and wisdom. Sit back and enjoy this big-hearted novel, and then pass it on to your best friend.” —Susan Wiggs, New York Times bestselling author “Marie Bostwick beautifully captures the very essence of women’s friendships—the love, the pain, the trust, the forgiveness—and crafts a seamless and heartfelt novel from them. Evelyn, Abigail, Margot, and Liza are as real and endearing as my own closest friends, and as I turned the last page I felt that sweet, satisfying sorrow in having to say goodbye that marks the work of a writer at the top of her game.” —Kristy Kiernan, author of Catching Genius and Matters of Faith “Bostwick makes a seamless transition from |

Air Dance Iguana (Alex Rutledge Series #5) $6.99 SOME WOUNDS NEVER HEALLately, Key West is not quite the laid back place that occasional freelance crime-scene-photographer Alex Rutledge prefers. It’s bad enough that the discovery of two dead ex-Navy men one morning—both found swinging on boat lifts twenty miles apart—means grisly work at the indecent hour of 7AM. It’s worse that Alex’s run-in with a chest-thumping new deputy turns out to have ominous consequences when his wayward younger brother turns up in town…and becomes the prime suspect.SOME PROMISES SHOULD NEVER BE MADEAlex knows Tim has messed up his life, but he just can’t believe his brother isn’t a killer. But what he doesn’t know is that facing the killer may turn out to be the least of his problems… “Tom Corcoran and his hard-ass protagonist are destined to become national treasures.”?Randy Wayne White, author of Dead of Night, Tampa Burn, and Everglades”Tom Corcoran has put his time on the water to great use. All Cats are Black After Dark $18.48 My book is about two twin sisters, Lailani and Lorelei. How we grew up in our hometown. I talk about back in the days when we were little. How nice my Grandma’s house was. She took care of us. We lived much hand to mouth. My mother you wouldn’t believe the things she did. We had no father. I talk about our neighborhood. White folks and black folks. Back in the days people would work hard all week, then get dressed up and go out partying on Friday and Saturday nights. Like living in Harlem Renaissance around here. Only on a smaller scale. Black people celebrating life, working hard in factories. I talk about church was a strong foundation. I describe how far I came and what I lost. Up close and personal. A lot of racism, hard times for me and my sister. Big problems in the atmosphere I was raised in. Neglect – Violence – Abuse – Many things – Teen relation – Pain – Misery – Tears. You won’t forget about the miracle and the faith that I have. Too black to be white and too white to be black. About all my babies, the joy they gave me. Most of all my sense of humor. Drugs and how they created big problems. I remember a grudge my ex had against me. The hurts dead-end situation. A family secret never told. The benefit of wisdom, you don’t want to be judged or dismissed because of your color, or because you’re poor! |

All My Relations $17.95 Set against the stark but seductive landscape of the American Southwest, the stories in All My Relations explore the inner landscape of mind and heart, where charting the simplest course is subject to a complex constellation of relationships. In the title story of the collection, a Pima Indian hires on with a rancher in an attempt to quit drinking and to win back the wife and son who have left him. His efforts to master land and horses and to bake the perfect cake mirror his efforts to subdue his own demons and to embrace a peaceful domesticity. In "The Big Bang and the Good House", Tony, a former drug dealer, pits his urge toward chaos against the orderly pleasures of marriage, finally yielding to the solidity and spaciousness of domestic love: "I feel myself gathering weight, density. Cautiously, I allow myself to inhabit this Good House, which surprisingly fits like my own body". Julia, the aging protagonist of "Simplifying", risks her fragile health in a love affair; her generosity of spirit toward her lover is matched in inverse proportion by the frugality with which her lover doles out his affections. In "The March of the Toys", a young woman flees Delaware, her chronically ill father, and her grieving mother, only to find that she’s traded the neediness of her family for the harrowing disturbances of her lovers. She muses, "I couldn’t affect anyone’s life. I could only attend it".In "Hualapai Dread", an investment broker’s infatuation with an enigmatic Hualapai Indian woman, as elusive as she is beautiful, brings out his most predatory instincts and unmasks her own deceit. Acting on similar but more destructive impulses toward the object of his sexual obsession, a character in another story takes his soon-to-be ex-wife on a bizarre "honeymoon for divorce". The close-knit family of "Builders" breaks under the strain of constructing their dream house with their |

American Erotica $11.99 AMERICAN EROTICAA new collection of erotic short stories set in contemporary America, ranging from the humorous and romantic to the intensely sexual. American Erotica: Erotic Stories features creamy tales of total desire – of men with women, women with women, men with men, and plenty of groups too. Some of the stories are out-and-out fantasy and wildness – such as a day trip into the Californian countryside to find the clitoris in ‘A Complete Guide To the Clitoris, Including Map’, and an alternative universe where men have gigantic cocks (in a story called – what else? – ‘Big Cocks’). Some of the stories are domestic and everyday, about couples splitting up and getting back together and doing the wild thing. Husbands and wives, older women and young men, lesbians, gays – and of course ex-boyfriends and ex-girlfriends. Making love in swimming pools, in bathrooms, in tents, on trains, in cars, on vacation in Hawaii, in theaters and a Guns ‘N Roses concert in Philly – these people are getting freaky all over America. Illustrated with erotic nude photographs. EXTRACT FROM ‘SUNSET STRIP”Hey,’ she said and smiled. I’m instantly hyped up to the max, and as aroused as any man can possibly be. That body… those hot, hot eyes, eyes that could slice you up with lasers. ‘Wanna walk?’ We walked. I had a million questions I wanted to ask her, but you don’t interrogate a Goddess. So we talked about the usual shit. About back home, and school, and music, and films, and fuck knows what else. So I put my arm around her, and she – get this – she puts her arm around me. West Hollywood suddenly turned day-glo pink with flights of angels and cherubs fluttering overhead and the sidewalk became marshmallow soft and the buildings were all white and fluffy and the cars turned into cascades of feathers and… She kissed me. She kissed me. Just like that. She kissed me. That hot mouth… a soft, soft |

Unseen, she jumps into the back of his Jeep, and remains hidden all day, observing the man she once loved. And now, only nine months later, I know nothing at all. The novel unfolds over the course of one day, ping-ponging between Virginia’s fear of discovery and the illicit thrill of “breaking and entering” into the life of her former lover. Any woman who has ever lived and loved will find herself swept up in Virginia’s mesmerizing journey. |

Center of the Universe: Yep, That Would Be Me $9.99 I CAN’T FIX THE WORLD. I CAN ONLY SIT BACK AND CRITICIZE IT. Welcome to the story of my life. Well, at least the story of my junior and senior years of high school. It’s a profound, touching, and hilarious (if I do say so myself) tale told through cunning poems, revelatory diary entries, perspicacious (look it up) word definitions, shrewd bits of advice, and off-the-cuff (but brilliant) insights. You’ll probably relate to a lot of it. Especially the parts about hating my parents, never feeling cool enough, failing my first attempt at the SATs, having an incredibly romantic (but one-sided) relationship with the coolest guy in school, and getting hexed by my ex-best friend who became a Wiccan. And if you can’t relate? Well, step to the back of that humongous line. You’ll probably be right behind my family. If you’re lucky, my mom’ll bring snacks. How can I be who I am and who my family wants me to be when the person I am wouldn’t be caught dead with the person my family wants me to be? |

Cheer Up $6.75 Deep beneath the golden sun and lush palm tress in the county of oranges, there rose a newly formed and very varied creature. This creature was made up of many different parts and called itself Reel Big Fish. Their newest release, Cheer Up, a follow-up to 1998′s Why Do They Rock So Hard?, is a collection of new songs written over the past few years. They took to new ground with this one and expanded on their already diverse sound. The band is very excited about the album because it has a little bit of something for everybody, maybe even the moms. The songs on Cheer Up may also confuse their audience with their ironic and sometimes bitter lyrics sung over happy, upbeat melodies. That, lead vocalist/guitarist Aaron Barett says, Is the way we get it out and just have fun. We laugh about it. They have no problem making fun of themselves and others in songs like Dateless Losers and the title track Cheer Up. The bouncy melody of Valerie makes heads bob and bodies shake while it shamelessly rips apart that ‘evil’ ex-girlfriend with words like you make me wish I was dead…you’re like a knife in my head. Beautiful girl, ugly shirt, is their blatant opinion of a certain female fashion on Ban The Tube Top. They make no apologies for what they think and say things others wish they could. The a capella versions of the Frank Sinatra hit New York, New York proves their influences go further back than rock and ska. The guys respectfully take the song to a new and very melodic level with a barbershop quartet appeal. Now that the album is out there, the plan for Reel Big Fish is to continue working hard as usual. They plan to play to as many loyal fans as possible and have a blast in the process. Their good humor and uplifting energy comes at just the right time. We can all use a dose of laughter, music and straight up fun. |
